User Survey: What Would you Expect from a Network Editor?

Dear MATSim Users and Developers,

preparing MATSim's input files is a critical and time consuming step for any MATSim application, and network editing is a big part of it.

Over time, several approaches to network editing have emerged: some might edit the network with an external tool and convert it to MATSim format as a last step; some might visualize the network in VIA and directly edit the XML file; and some software tools were specifically designed for this task. Unfortunately, developing and documenting such tools is time consuming, and due to the specificity of everyone's workflow, it can be difficult to identify what features are the most important.

ETH Zurich started efforts in the direction of documenting and extending the MATSim JOSM plugin for network editing. In order to be able to prioritize tasks and features in the way that serves the community best, we kindly ask you, MATSim users, to fill in the following short survey:

The results of this survey will help us get an idea of how people currently work with network, and what features would be most helpful. You do not need to have used the plugin, to plan to use it, or even to be aware of its existence to take part in the survey. All opinions are welcome!

Please feel free to forward this announcement to any member of your team or collaborator who might have an opinion on this topic.

Sincerely,

Thibaut Dubernet and Andreas Farner for IVT, ETH Zurich
